Volvo CE Creates Task Force to Study Whether It Has Too Many Task Forces

Updated: May 10

VOLVO CE TASK FORCE

"We wanted to be decisive," says CEO, after 14 meetings about having a meeting.

ESKILSTUNA, Sweden - a land of Swedish people most known for Swedish meatballs (Köttbullar) and ironwork, and more importantly, the global headquarters of Volvo Construction Equipment.

In a move that has left employees simultaneously laughing and quietly questioning their life choices over complimentary office coffee, Volvo Construction Equipment President and CEO Melker Jernberg also known to his fans as J Money, announced today the formation of a brand-new Task Force to Study the Feasibility of Forming Task Forces.

Jernberg is a CEO. He was outed then came back with a strong alter ego J. Money. Photo is CEO wearing a gold chain.
J Money as the kids call him is the CEO of Volvo CE. He is a "real" one.

The announcement arrived via internal memo Tuesday afternoon, following what J Money described as "too many preliminary meetings to discuss whether we should consider having this conversation."

"We felt it was time to take decisive action," Jernberg wrote.

"Decisive action, of course, meaning we will now spend the next six months producing an 87-page report complete with a flowchart that no one will fully understand."

What This Task Force Will Actually Do

The newly formed task force, whose members have not yet been named because the Task Force to Name Task Forces is still onboarding, has been given three critical objectives:

  • Evaluate the current task force ecosystem (translation: count how many task forces already exist)

  • Determine if there are too many, too few, or exactly the right number of task forces (a source close to the situation admitted, "We'll probably need another task force to validate that data.")

  • Produce a comprehensive 87-page report with executive summary, appendices, and what one insider called "one of those confusing dashed-line flowcharts that looks like a plate of spaghetti had a seizure."

The Infinite Task Force Loop

The most brilliant (or terrifying) aspect is the reporting structure. The Task Force to Study the Feasibility of Forming Task Forces will not report to J Money directly. Nor will it report to senior leadership. It will report its findings to… another task force.

"Obviously," the memo states, as if this were the most logical thing in the world. When reached for comment, one middle manager who asked to remain anonymous stared at a wall for 37 seconds before whispering, "I've been here twelve years. I don't even know what my job is anymore. But God help me, I still love our excavators."

Jernberg was quick to reassure the global workforce that actual construction equipment, the big Volvo machines that dig, load, and haul, will continue operating normally.

"Rest assured," the memo continues, "our excavators, wheel loaders, and articulated haulers will keep digging, loading, and hauling while we figure out the optimal way to form committees about forming committees.

"This brought visible relief on the factory floor in Eskilstuna, though several workers pointed out that the official Question Submission Protocol Approval Form (Version 2.3) is currently under review by the Form Review Subcommittee.

Meaning no one can actually ask questions about any of this yet.

The Existential Twist

In a postscript that has already been screenshotted and framed by multiple employees, J Money added what may be the most self-aware line ever committed to corporate letterhead:

"P.S. If this task force determines that task forces are inefficient, we will immediately form a new task force to phase out task forces. And we believe we will set precedence for the rest of the corporate culture in our industry. You're welcome."

Industry Reaction

Management consultants are reportedly thrilled. Efficiency experts are reportedly in despair. And on the shop floor, one welder put down his torch, glanced at the memo, and said: "I just make the big machines that go 'beep beep' when they reverse. I'm pretty sure I'm already on three of these task forces."

Volvo CE declined further comment, citing that all media inquiries must first be submitted via the External Communications Authorization Intake Request (Version 1.7), which is currently being reviewed by the Subcommittee on Subcommittee Formation Protocols.

That subcommittee meets next Tuesday. Assuming a quorum, of course.

This article is absolute satire and a committee has been formed to investigate if a task forced is needed.
